Quick answer: To claim RM3,000 for home nursing after surgery, ask your insurer or takaful operator whether the nurse and visits qualify before you book, keep itemised bills and visit records, then submit its claim form with the medical reports. RM3,000 is the MediAsas pilot's yearly ceiling, not a fixed payout. As of October 2026.

Key points

  • Before you book: ask your operator whether the provider and visits qualify.
  • Keep: itemised bills, receipts and a dated record of every visit.
  • Submit the operator's claim form with bills and medical reports.
  • If declined: appeal to the operator, then to FMOS or BNMLINK.
  • RM3,000 is a yearly ceiling, not a lump sum.

Where does the RM3,000 come from?

It matches the MediAsas pilot home nursing limit. The BNM MediAsas pilot FAQ (Version 1, 29 July 2026) lists Post-Hospitalisation Home Nursing Care as "as charged, up to RM3,000 per year", with a maximum of 90 days per lifetime, inside the yearly cap on all MediAsas payments (the Overall Annual Limit) and with co-payment (Appendix I, item 13). It is a ceiling on eligible charges, not a fixed payment, and it follows a hospital stay. The FAQ does not say whether surgery without an overnight stay qualifies.

Six insurers and takaful operators ("operators") sell MediAsas in the pilot (A19). We have not checked the home nursing limits of other plans: yours is in your policy schedule. See which insurers offer MediAsas and how the RM3,000 and 90 days work.

How do I claim RM3,000 home nursing after surgery, step by step?

Follow these steps in order, and keep a copy of everything you send.

  1. Ask the doctor before discharge whether home nursing is needed, for which tasks and for how long (see our hospital discharge checklist).
  2. Ask your operator in writing whether the provider and the type of visit qualify, and whether you must pay first. Do this before booking.
  3. Book the nurse and ask for an itemised invoice and a receipt for every visit.
  4. Keep a visit record: date, time and what was done. Ask the provider for a visit or clinical report.
  5. Get your operator's claim form, and a doctor's recommendation letter if it asks for one.
  6. Submit the form, bills, receipts and medical reports through your operator's official channel.
  7. Track the claim in the same channel, and send missing documents quickly.
  8. If it is declined or reduced, ask for the reasons in writing, appeal with supporting documents, then go to FMOS or BNMLINK.

What should I ask my insurer before the first visit?

Ask these in writing, because the pilot FAQ does not answer most of them for home nursing:

  • Do the nurse or provider and the type of visit qualify as post-hospitalisation home nursing?
  • Must I pay first, or is cashless or direct payment available for home nursing?
  • Do you need a doctor's referral or recommendation letter?
  • Which claim form and which channel do I use, and can I claim in stages or only once after all visits?
  • Is there a deadline to submit a claim?
  • How are the 90 days counted, and how many are left?
  • Does a deductible apply, and is SST (sales and service tax) part of the eligible charge?

The answers decide whether, and how much, you can claim. Our guide to whether MediAsas covers home nursing lists what else the FAQ leaves open.

Which documents do I need to claim?

The FAQ says required documents "may vary depending on the type of claim, but usually include completed claim forms, medical bills and supporting medical reports" (C19). We found no MediAsas claim form or home nursing claim procedure published by BNM or the six pilot operators as of 16 October 2026.

Document Why you need it Source
Completed claim form Starts the claim BNM FAQ, C19
Itemised bills Show what was charged BNM FAQ, C11 and C19
Medical reports Support the need for nursing BNM FAQ, C11 and C19
Doctor's recommendation letter Ask your operator Example only: Prudential Assurance Malaysia checklist, item 24
Nurse's qualification and per-day time record Ask your operator Example only: same checklist, items 25 and 26

The last two rows come from another insurer's checklist for its own plans, and that checklist also asks for original receipts (item 4), so keep yours. Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad is not named in the pilot FAQ's list of operators, so treat the rows as a guide to what an insurer may ask. For a general list, see documents needed to claim hospital insurance.

Do I pay the nurse first, or is it cashless?

Expect to pay first unless your operator confirms otherwise in writing. The FAQ describes cashless admission, where the operator pays eligible hospital expenses directly through a Guarantee Letter (GL), for Preferred In-Network Providers, and the pilot list names only hospitals. For out-of-network treatment you may need to pay first and claim later (C11 to C16). It says nothing about cashless payment for home nursing. Home Care Apps does not offer cashless or direct billing, and we are not a panel provider of any insurer or takaful operator. Our home page says coverage depends on your insurance plan and that we provide a post-visit clinical report that can be submitted for reimbursement claims. Whether a visit qualifies, and whether a claim is approved, is for your operator to decide.

How do I submit the claim, and how long do I have?

Submit it through your operator's official channel as soon as you have the documents. The FAQ says claims processing may be delayed until all required documents are submitted (C20), that processing time varies with the completeness of documents and the type of claim (C18), and that you can view claim status through the operator's official channels (C19). It gives no deadline for submitting a claim, so ask your operator.

Other insurers do set windows. Great Eastern's claim guide says most policies specify a claim submission window after treatment or discharge, but gives no number and does not mention home nursing. One news explainer says the MediAsas claims process is standardised across operators (RinggitPlus, 29 September 2026). The FAQ does not say the forms are identical, so use the one your operator gives you.

What if the claim is declined or reduced?

Appeal to your operator first, then go to FMOS or BNMLINK. The BNM FAQ says you may appeal or dispute a claims decision by submitting a request with relevant supporting documents, subject to the operator's review process, which may include referral to the Financial Markets Ombudsman Service (FMOS) or BNM's Laman Informasi Nasihat dan Khidmat (BNMLINK) (C22). FMOS says you must first file a formal complaint with the operator. You can then submit a dispute within 6 months of receiving its final decision, or if the operator has not responded within 60 days of your first submission (FMOS, How to File a Dispute). Its homepage describes a free dispute resolution service. Keep every document, and see why claims get rejected.

What to do next

  • Ask your operator the questions above, in writing, before the first visit.
  • Ask the nursing provider for itemised invoices, receipts and a visit report.
  • Keep dated copies of every document you send.
  • Submit early, because the FAQ gives no claim deadline.

FAQ

How do I claim RM3,000 for home nursing after surgery?

Ask your operator whether the provider and visits qualify, keep itemised bills and a visit record, and submit its claim form with bills and medical reports through its official channel. If refused, appeal to the operator, then to FMOS or BNMLINK. RM3,000 is a yearly ceiling, not a fixed payout.

Is the RM3,000 home nursing benefit a lump sum?

No. The schedule says "as charged, up to RM3,000 per year" (BNM FAQ, Appendix I). You can claim eligible charges up to that ceiling, within your Overall Annual Limit and after any co-payment.

Which insurance pays RM3,000 for home nursing?

In the BNM pilot FAQ, the MediAsas home nursing benefit is up to RM3,000 per year and a maximum of 90 days per lifetime. Six insurers and takaful operators take part in the pilot. For any other plan, read the limit in your own policy schedule.

Can I claim a nurse at home after day surgery?

The FAQ does not say. The benefit is called post-hospitalisation, and day surgery is listed as a separate benefit (item 9). Ask your operator whether home nursing after day surgery qualifies before you book.

How we can help

Home Care Apps arranges registered nurse home visits across Peninsular Malaysia, subject to nurse availability in your area. We provide a post-visit clinical report that families may use with a claim, but we do not guarantee that a claim is approved, and we can explain what a visit includes and what it costs before you book. Send an enquiry or take the free care assessment.
