Quick answer: The MediAsas home nursing limit in the Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) pilot FAQ is "as charged, up to RM3,000 per year" and a maximum of 90 days per lifetime, inside your Overall Annual Limit and subject to co-payment. The FAQ does not say how a day is counted. As of October 2026.
Key points
- Money cap: up to RM3,000 a year, as charged, not a lump sum.
- Day cap: a maximum of 90 days per lifetime.
- Inside your annual limit: home nursing payments count toward the Overall Annual Limit.
- Co-payment applies unless the schedule says otherwise.
- Unclear in the FAQ: how a day is counted and what "year" means.
What is the MediAsas home nursing limit?
There are two separate caps: up to RM3,000 per year, and a maximum of 90 days per lifetime. Both appear in Appendix I, item 13 of the BNM MediAsas pilot FAQ (Version 1, 29 July 2026), where the benefit is called Post-Hospitalisation Home Nursing Care. The same limit is shown for MediAsas Teras (the standard plan) and MediAsas Fleksi (the plan with a higher deductible). These are pilot terms. BNM's MHIT page says final product features and pricing will be published at the nationwide launch in January 2027.
| Limit | What the FAQ says | What it caps |
|---|---|---|
| Money | As charged, up to RM3,000 per year | What the plan pays for home nursing in a year |
| Days | Maximum 90 days per lifetime | How many days of this benefit you can use in total |
| Overall Annual Limit | Teras RM100,000 (age 0 to 59) or RM150,000 (60 and above); Fleksi RM300,000 | Everything the plan pays in a year, home nursing included |
| Co-payment | Applies to outpatient benefits unless the schedule says otherwise | The part you pay first or share |
How much does MediAsas pay for home nursing?
At most RM3,000 in a year, and only for eligible charges. Appendix I words the benefit as "as charged, up to RM3,000 per year", and says benefits are payable for "Eligible Expenses". That makes RM3,000 a ceiling, not a lump sum. Nothing in the FAQ says the plan pays RM3,000 because you had surgery or came home from hospital. If your eligible nursing charges for the year are lower than RM3,000, the benefit is lower too. The FAQ also does not say whether SST (sales and service tax) on a nurse's fee counts as an eligible charge. Your insurer or takaful operator (the "operator") decides each claim. For the yes or no question, see does MediAsas cover home nursing after discharge.
How do the RM3,000 and the 90 days work together?
They are separate limits, so the tighter one decides what is left. The money cap is yearly and the day cap is for life. The FAQ does not say how a "day" is counted: a day a nurse visits, a calendar day in a care period, or a day for which a claim is paid.
Here is simple arithmetic from the two FAQ figures. It is not a price or a claim example. If all 90 days fell in one year, RM3,000 spread over them is RM33.33 a day (RM3,000 divided by 90). If the average eligible charge per day is above RM33.33, that year's RM3,000 would run out before 90 days were used. If the days are spread over several years, the yearly money cap applies in each year. The FAQ does not say whether a "year" is the policy year or the calendar year.
The FAQ says MediAsas has no overall lifetime limit (BNM FAQ, B8 and Appendix I), but this one benefit has a lifetime cap of 90 days.
Does the RM3,000 count toward my annual limit?
Yes. Item 13 says "subject to Overall Annual Limit", so what the plan pays for home nursing counts inside the yearly total for all benefits. The Overall Annual Limit is RM100,000 for Teras at age 0 to 59, RM150,000 for Teras at 60 and above, and RM300,000 for Fleksi (BNM FAQ, B2 and Appendix I). Hospital bills and other claims in the same year draw on the same total, so very large claims could leave less than RM3,000 of room. The FAQ says customers will generally be informed if a treatment is expected to exceed the coverage limit, subject to the hospital's and the operator's notification process (C23).
Does co-payment apply to home nursing?
The schedule suggests it does, but the FAQ does not show how. Appendix I says co-payment (deductible and co-insurance or co-takaful) applies to all inpatient and outpatient benefits "unless we specifically state otherwise", and item 13 is listed under Outpatient Benefits with no exception.
- Teras: a deductible per disability (RM500 at age 0 to 59, RM1,000 at 60 and above), plus 20% co-insurance, capped at RM3,000 per disability, if the provider is out-of-network. The Teras waiver covers only government facilities, emergency treatment and outpatient cancer treatment (B4).
- Fleksi: a deductible of RM10,000 (in-network) or RM15,000 (out-of-network) per year, with no co-insurance.
The FAQ does not say how these apply to a home nursing provider, or whether a deductible already met during the hospital stay carries over.
Is the 90 days the same as the 90 days after discharge?
No. They are different limits that look alike. Items 11 and 12 in Appendix I carry the words "Within 90 days after discharge from Hospital" for follow-up treatment and physiotherapy. Item 13 carries "Subject to a maximum of 90 days per lifetime", and the FAQ gives it no start or end window. Some explainers blend the two: RinggitPlus (29 September 2026) lists home nursing care among treatment before and after a hospital stay. Ask your operator in writing how soon after discharge visits must start and when the window ends.
What should I ask my insurer about the limit?
Ask these six questions in writing before the first visit:
- Does "per year" mean the policy year or the calendar year?
- Is a "day" a day a nurse visits, or any calendar day in a care period?
- How many of my 90 days have been used, and where can I see that?
- Does a deductible apply to home nursing, and does the one I paid for the hospital stay count?
- Is SST included in the eligible charge?
- Do the provider and the type of visit qualify, before I book?
Home Care Apps arranges registered nurse home visits across Peninsular Malaysia, subject to nurse availability in your area, but we cannot answer these questions for your plan. Our "from" prices are on our home page. They are not a statement that any visit is covered. Our guide to how to claim the RM3,000 home nursing benefit covers the paperwork.
What to do next
- Ask your operator the six questions above, in writing.
- Ask your doctor what nursing is needed after discharge and for how long.
- Read "home nursing" in your policy wording and Product Disclosure Sheet.
- Keep a note of every visit date, so you can match it to the day count.
- Unsure what care is needed? Try the free care assessment.
FAQ
Is the MediAsas RM3,000 home nursing limit a lump sum?
No. The schedule says "as charged, up to RM3,000 per year" (BNM FAQ, Appendix I). That is a ceiling on eligible charges, so the benefit is lower if the charges are lower.
Does the MediAsas home nursing limit reset every year?
The RM3,000 is "per year", and the FAQ does not define the year. The 90-day cap is "per lifetime", so it does not reset. Ask your operator when your yearly RM3,000 starts again.
How is a day counted under the 90-day limit?
The FAQ does not say. It could mean a day a nurse visits or a calendar day in a care period, and the policy wording may decide. Ask your operator before the first visit, and keep a dated record of every visit.
Do Teras and Fleksi have the same home nursing limit?
Appendix I shows one home nursing limit for both plans. The deductibles differ, and the FAQ does not show how they apply to home nursing. Ask your operator.
How we can help
Home Care Apps arranges registered nurse home visits across Peninsular Malaysia, subject to nurse availability in your area. If your doctor advises nursing at home, we can explain what a visit includes and what it costs before you decide, and whether any visit qualifies is for your operator to say.
