Who we are: Home Care Apps Team
Quick answer: Yes, the Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) pilot FAQ says you can hold a company medical card and MediAsas together, and suggests the Fleksi plan to sit beside company cover. The FAQ does not say how the two share a home nursing claim, so ask HR and your insurer. As of October 2026.
Key points
- The BNM pilot FAQ allows MediAsas alongside employer cover.
- It suggests Fleksi, which has a higher deductible.
- You may hold only one MediAsas plan at a time.
- The FAQ is silent on sharing a home nursing claim.
- Check your employer's policy and ask HR.
Can I use a company medical card and MediAsas together?
Yes. The BNM MediAsas pilot FAQ (Version 1, 29 July 2026, question A7) says a customer "may still participate in MediAsas" if an employer's benefits already cover them or they hold a medical card, because MediAsas is "designed to complement, rather than a replacement" for existing cover. By "company medical card" we mean medical card insurance in Malaysia that your employer provides. BNM's policy document defines a group policy as one "issued to a legal entity as the policy owner" (paragraph 5.2).
Three pilot limits apply:
- You may hold only one MediAsas, Teras or Fleksi, across all insurers (A13).
- Applications are open to Malaysian citizens with a MyKad, aged 16 to 70, and are fully underwritten, so the insurer may ask for health details (C1, C3, C8).
- The pilot runs from end July to October 2026 with 10 Klang Valley hospitals (BNM MHIT page). BNM said on 9 October 2026 that MediAsas will be rolled out to the public in January 2027 (BNM statement).
Which MediAsas plan suits someone with a company card?
The BNM FAQ suggests Fleksi, because its higher deductible is meant "to better complement" existing cover (A7). A deductible is the amount you pay before the plan pays. Fleksi's is RM10,000 a year at Preferred In-Network hospitals and RM15,000 at others, counted across the policy year. Teras's is RM500 per disability in network (RM1,000 from age 60) (B2, B5). Annual limits are RM300,000 for Fleksi and RM100,000 (RM150,000 from age 60) for Teras.
BNM's own example (Appendix II) shows Mei Ling, 30, who takes Fleksi "as a supplementary medical coverage to her Employee Benefit Scheme":
| BNM example, Fleksi | Employee benefit scheme pays | MediAsas pays |
|---|---|---|
| January 2027: RM50,000 bill | RM10,000 | RM40,000 |
| May 2027: RM20,000 bill | none shown | RM20,000 |
She pays RM0 both times. This is an illustration, not a promise about any real employer plan. Switching between Teras and Fleksi is not available during the pilot (A15).
Does a company card or MediAsas pay for home nursing?
Both may, but only the policy wording can confirm it. MediAsas lists a Post-Hospitalisation Home Nursing Care benefit "as charged", up to RM3,000 a year and a maximum of 90 days per lifetime (Appendix I, item 13). It sits under outpatient benefits, and the schedule says the co-payment applies to all inpatient and outpatient items unless it states otherwise. For Fleksi, that suggests home nursing costs may count toward the yearly deductible first, so confirm with your insurer. Private nursing outside that benefit is excluded (exclusion 15). See how the RM3,000 and 90 days work.
For the company card, we found no source that says how employers' plans treat home nursing, so we do not guess. Check your employer's policy and ask HR. The FAQ's example shows a hospital stay only. It does not say whether an employer's payment counts toward the Fleksi deductible for a home nursing claim, or which cover pays first.
Can I claim the same bill from both?
You cannot recover more than the bill, and the BNM FAQ does not explain how two policies share one claim. We found no BNM or MediAsas rule on claiming from two policies, so the points below are insurers' general explanations, not MediAsas rules.
- An older Prudential Assurance Malaysia Q&A says: "Once you have been reimbursed for the hospital bills from one policy, you cannot claim again from the other policy." (The Edge Malaysia Weekly, December 2015).
- AIA Malaysia says group and individual plans "can operate in tandem", and that you can use the group cover first and the individual plan for the rest (AIA Malaysia).
Tell each insurer about the other cover. BNM's policy document requires insurers' staff and intermediaries to ask about your existing cover and whether your employer provides it (paragraph 14.2). The FAQ warns that false or incomplete information can lead to rejection or delay (C24). See also why claims get rejected.
Do I still need MediAsas if my company gives me a medical card?
That depends on your own cover, so this page does not tell you to buy or skip it. Some facts from the sources:
- AIA Malaysia: "Generally speaking, group plans have a lower annual limit than individual plans."
- BNM says applying while healthy helps secure cover before health conditions affect your terms (C2). MediAsas is renewable to age 85 (C1).
- Whether employer cover continues after you leave a job is the employer's policy. Ask HR.
- Premiums are not guaranteed and change with age (D1, D2). Indicative premiums are RM60 to RM550 a month for entry age up to 70, with final pricing at the January 2027 launch (BNM MHIT page).
Compare your company benefits with the Teras and Fleksi schedules before you decide. Read the policy wording and Product Disclosure Sheet first.
What should I ask HR and my insurer?
Ask in writing, and keep the replies:
- Does the company plan cover home nursing after a hospital stay? What are its limits, documents and claim steps?
- What happens to the company card if I leave my job or retire?
- If I add MediAsas Fleksi, which cover pays first, and do both need the same bills?
- Does my employer's payment count toward the Fleksi deductible for hospital bills, and for home nursing?
- For MediAsas home nursing, how are the 90 days counted, and does a nurse need a doctor's letter? The FAQ does not say.

What to do next
- Ask HR for your company plan's home nursing terms in writing.
- Ask your MediAsas insurer how it treats a claim when you have other cover.
- Read the policy wording and Product Disclosure Sheet before choosing Teras or Fleksi.
- If your doctor advises nurse visits, try the free care assessment or send us an enquiry.
FAQ
Can I have MediAsas and a company medical card?
Yes. The BNM pilot FAQ (29 July 2026) says MediAsas is designed to complement existing cover, and a customer may take it even with employer benefits or a medical card. The insurer still underwrites your application.
Can I claim from both for home nursing?
You cannot recover more than the bill. The BNM FAQ does not explain how two policies share a home nursing claim, so ask both insurers in writing before the first visit.
Which MediAsas plan suits someone with a company card?
The FAQ suggests Fleksi because its higher yearly deductible is meant to sit alongside existing cover. Plan switching is not available during the pilot, so compare Teras and Fleksi in the policy wording first.
Can I hold two MediAsas plans?
No. The FAQ says a customer may hold only one MediAsas, either Teras or Fleksi, at any one time across all insurers and takaful operators.
How we can help
Home Care Apps arranges registered nurse home visits across Peninsular Malaysia, subject to nurse availability in your area, and gives a post-visit clinical report that families can submit with an insurance claim; whether a claim is paid depends on your policy. We are a nursing provider, not an insurer, and we cannot say what your company card or MediAsas will pay. Send an enquiry or try the free care assessment.
