How Much Does a Home Nurse Cost per Visit in Malaysia?

Who we are: Home Care Apps Team

Quick answer: Home Care Apps publishes starting ("from") prices of RM127 to RM250 per visit, excluding SST, as of 16 October 2026. We found no official home nursing price list in Malaysia, so quotes vary with the task, visit length, distance and time of day: ask for one written total. Facts checked October 2026.

Key points

  • Our published prices: from RM127 to RM250 per visit, excluding SST.
  • No official price list: we found none, so ask for a written total.
  • What moves the price: task, visit length, distance, time of day, supplies and tax.
  • Insurance: the MediAsas pilot lists up to RM3,000 a year; ask your insurer.

1. How much does a home nurse cost per visit with Home Care Apps?

Home Care Apps shows a starting price for each visit type on our home page. These are "from" prices per visit, excluding SST, as published on 16 October 2026.

Visit type Published "from" price Visit length
Wound dressing RM160 45 to 60 minutes
IV therapy (standard peripheral only) RM250 60 to 90 minutes
Catheter care RM191 30 to 45 minutes
Medication administration RM127 20 to 30 minutes
Post-discharge monitoring RM200 60 to 90 minutes

Post-natal nursing care by a registered midwife starts from RM220 for 60 minutes, and advanced home nursing care is priced by quote. A "from" price is a starting price, not a promise of your final total. See what each service includes.

2. Is there an official price list for home nurse cost in Malaysia?

We found no official price list or fee schedule for home nursing visits in Malaysia, so each provider sets its own prices. Two published examples show how they can differ. They are not a market average.

  • UiTM Mobile Nursing Care (a university faculty service) lists wound dressing at RM150 to RM180 by wound size, and a urinary catheter change at RM120, under "without patient equipment". Lower prices appear under "with patient equipment", which the page does not define. Transport is charged separately. The price table shows no date (UiTM, page read 16 October 2026).
  • Care Concierge, a senior care provider, published a table on 20 May 2026 of "typical market rates" for skilled nursing: RM36 to RM60 per hour and RM160 to RM325 per procedure visit. It says these come from published sources, not its own prices (Care Concierge).

Weak points: both are single provider pages, the units differ, and Care Concierge dates its page May 2026 but says it checked the rates in October 2026.

3. What makes the price of a visit go up or down?

Six things move in-home nurse cost, so ask about each one:

  • Task: a wound dressing, an injection, an IV drip and catheter care need different skills and supplies, so they carry different prices. UiTM prices wound dressing by wound size.
  • Visit length: longer visits usually cost more. Our published lengths range from 20 to 30 minutes for medication administration to 60 to 90 minutes for IV therapy.
  • Distance: UiTM charges transport by mileage or Grab, and iElder.Asia charges RM1 for every 1 km (iElder.Asia, undated). Care Concierge notes that travel surcharges may apply far from a provider's base.
  • Time of day: iElder.Asia charges RM40 an hour for extra hours, or RM50 an hour before and after office hours. Ask whether evenings, weekends and public holidays cost more.
  • Equipment and supplies: dressings, catheters and drips may be extra, and iElder.Asia charges consumables per use. Ask who supplies what.
  • Tax: see the next section.

4. Is SST charged on a home nurse visit?

Ask your provider and check the quote, because the official page we found does not mention home nursing. The Royal Malaysian Customs Department's MySST FAQ (last updated 19 July 2026) says that from 1 July 2025, nursing and other healthcare services by private healthcare facilities to non-citizens are subject to service tax at 6%, and that Malaysian citizens are exempted (MySST FAQ). It adds that providers must register once they reach RM1,500,000 in 12 months.

The page does not say whether a visit at home counts as a service by a private healthcare facility. So we cannot say whether SST for healthcare applies to your visit. If the patient is not a Malaysian citizen, ask the provider before you book whether tax will be added. Home Care Apps' published prices exclude SST, so see the quote for tax.

5. How do I compare two quotes for the same visits?

Compare totals for the same tasks and dates, not prices per visit alone. The total is the number of visits times the price, plus extras. For example, if your doctor advises a dressing change every second day for two weeks, that is seven visits, so multiply the quoted price by seven and then add extras.

  1. Give each provider the same tasks, dates and address.
  2. Ask how many visits the price covers, and how long each visit lasts.
  3. Ask what is extra: travel, supplies, out-of-hours time and tax.
  4. Ask for the total in writing, with the cancellation terms.
  5. If one quote is much lower, ask what it leaves out.

For more checks, see how to compare home nursing providers and how to find a caregiver or home nurse.

6. Can insurance reimburse a home nurse's fees?

It can under some plans, so ask your insurer before the first visit. The Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) MediAsas pilot FAQ lists a post-hospitalisation home nursing care benefit that is "as charged, up to RM3,000 per year", for a maximum of 90 days per lifetime (Appendix I, item 13). Private nursing outside that benefit is excluded (exclusion 15) (BNM FAQ, 29 July 2026).

The FAQ does not say whether SST is part of "as charged". Pilot terms may change before the nationwide launch planned for January 2027 (BNM MediAsas page). The insurer decides each claim. See the RM3,000 and 90 days explained and does my medical card cover a nurse at home?.

What to do next

  • Ask your doctor how many visits you need and which tasks they cover.
  • Ask two or three providers for a written total for those dates.
  • Ask each what is extra: travel, supplies, out-of-hours time and tax.
  • Ask your insurer which home nursing costs it reimburses.
  • Try our free care assessment for an indicative price.

FAQ

How much does a home nurse cost per visit in Malaysia?

Home Care Apps' published "from" prices run from RM127 (medication administration) to RM250 (IV therapy) per visit, excluding SST, as of 16 October 2026. Other providers set their own prices, and we found no official list. Ask each provider for a written total.

Why do home nurse prices differ?

Prices follow the task, visit length, distance, time of day, supplies and tax. Providers also quote in different units, such as per visit, per hour or per procedure, so compare totals for the same tasks and dates.

What should I expect to pay for two weeks of visits after surgery?

Ask your doctor how many visits and which tasks are needed, then ask each provider for a total for those dates. The total is the number of visits times the price per visit, plus travel, supplies, out-of-hours time and tax.

Can insurance reimburse home nursing fees?

The BNM MediAsas pilot FAQ lists a home nursing benefit of up to RM3,000 a year, for a maximum of 90 days per lifetime, and the insurer decides each claim. Other plans differ. Ask your insurer and read your policy wording.

Is a nurse visit cheaper than a full-time caregiver?

We cannot say. They do different jobs and are priced in different units, and we found no neutral Malaysian source that compares them. Ask each provider for a written total for your own schedule.
